Ingredients

  • 1 pound Ground Beef Lean varieties like 85% or 90% are recommended.
  • 1 medium Onion Yellow or white onions work best.
  • 2 cloves Garlic Minced.
For the Rice
  • 2 cups Cooked White Rice About 1 cup uncooked.
For the Sauce
  • 1 can Cream of Mushroom Soup Can be substituted with cream of chicken or homemade soup.
  • 1 cup Milk or Beef Broth Use whatever is handy.
For the Cheese and Seasoning
  • 2 cups Cheddar Cheese Sharp cheddar melts beautifully.
  • 1 teaspoon Paprika Smoked paprika for enhanced flavor.

Method
 

Cooking Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef and diced onion over medium heat until browned, about 6-8 minutes. Drain excess fat, then add minced garlic and cook for 30 seconds.
  3. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the cream of mushroom soup, milk or broth, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  4. In your greased baking dish, combine the cooked rice, beef mixture, and half of the shredded cheese. Stir well.
  5. Layer the remaining cheese on top, cover with foil, and bake for about 20 minutes.
  6. After 20 minutes, remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes until cheese is bubbly and golden.
  7. For a crispy topping, broil for about 2 minutes.
  8. Optionally garnish with chopped parsley before serving.

Notes

For added flavor, sprinkle extra paprika on top before serving.
