Ingredients

For the Ham
  • 8-10 pounds Bone-in cooked ham Ideal size for about 25 servings.
  • 2 cups Water Essential for moisture during cooking.
For the Glaze
  • 1/2 cup Unsalted butter Can be swapped with reduced-fat butter.
  • 1 cup Brown sugar Main sweetener, can substitute with coconut sugar.
  • 1/4 cup Honey Adds depth; maple syrup is an alternative.
  • 1/2 cup Dijon mustard Offers a tangy kick.
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon Infuses warmth.
  • 1/2 teaspoon Ground cloves Optional based on preference.
  • 3 cloves Garlic Smashed for flavor.

Equipment

  • Oven
  • Baking Tray
  • Saucepan
  • Foil

Method

Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C). Remove the ham from packaging and score the fat in a diamond pattern.
  2. Place the ham in a lined baking tray, pour water into the base, and cover with foil. Bake for about 30 minutes.
  3. Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Add brown sugar, honey, Dijon mustard, cinnamon, and cloves. Stir until combined and introduce smashed garlic.
  4. Increase the oven temperature to 425°F (220°C). Uncover the ham and pour a third of the glaze over it. Bake uncovered for another 15 minutes.
  5. Brush the ham with more glaze and pan juices, repeating this basting every 15 minutes until a golden brown crust forms.
  6. Let the ham rest for 10-20 minutes before slicing and serving with pan juices.

Notes

Basting every 15 minutes is crucial for a sticky glaze. Prepare glaze in advance for convenience. Use foil to cover any dark spots during baking.
