Equipment

  • Oven

  • Whisk
  • Baking Pans

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two round baking pans.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and granulated sugar until fully combined.
  3. In another bowl, whisk the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract until smooth. Gradually mix this into the dry ingredients.
  4. Divide the batter into smaller bowls and add food coloring to each, mixing until you reach the desired hues. Spoon dollops into the greased pans randomly.
  5. Pour the remaining chocolate batter over the colorful dollops in each pan. Bake for 30-35 minutes.
  6. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for about 10 minutes before transferring them to wire racks. Frost as desired.

Notes

For vibrant polka dots, use gel food coloring instead of liquid. Store leftover cake in an airtight container.
