Preparation Steps
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Cream unsalted butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy, around 2-3 minutes.
- Mix in one large egg and a splash of vanilla extract until smooth.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour and baking powder. Gradually add this to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined.
- Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour to keep the shapes while baking.
- On a floured surface, roll out the dough to about ¼-inch thickness, and use cookie cutters to cut out shapes.
- Bake the cookies for 8-10 minutes until edges are barely golden. Keep them soft in the center.
- Cool on a wire rack for 5 minutes, then decorate with royal icing or sprinkles.
