For the Short Ribs
  • 4 lbs bone-in short ribs
  • 2 tbsp olive oil can substitute with vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp pepper
For the Sauce
  • 2 medium onions yellow or sweet
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 cup red wine substitute with beef broth if needed
  • 2 cups beef broth homemade or store-bought
For Flavor Enhancements
  • 1 tbsp fresh thyme
  • 1 tbsp fresh rosemary can substitute with dried

Method
 

Cooking Process
  1. Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C).
  2. Heat olive oil in a Dutch oven over medium heat. Season short ribs with salt and pepper, then sear for 3-4 minutes on each side.
  3. Remove ribs and sauté chopped onions and minced garlic in the same pot for about 5 minutes until onions are soft.
  4. Stir in tomato paste and cook for 1 minute. Pour in red wine and let it simmer for 5 minutes, then add beef broth.
  5. Return short ribs to the pot, ensuring they are submerged in sauce. Add fresh thyme and rosemary.
  6. Cover and bake in the oven for about 3 hours until tender.
  7. Transfer ribs to a plate and ladle sauce over the top. Serve with mashed potatoes or bread.

Notes

Allow the braised short ribs to rest overnight for deeper flavor.
