Method

How to Make Irresistible Creamy Easy Stovetop Mac and Cheese
  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil, then add elbow macaroni. Cook for about 7-9 minutes until al dente, then drain and save some pasta water for later.
  2. In the same pot, melt butter over medium heat. Whisk in flour to create a smooth paste; cook for 1 minute until it’s bubbly and pale.
  3. Gradually whisk in milk while stirring continuously for about 3-5 minutes, until the mixture thickens and coats the back of a spoon.
  4. Slowly add shredded cheddar cheese to the pot, stirring until it’s fully melted and the sauce is smooth and creamy.
  5. Fold the cooked macaroni into the cheese sauce. If it feels too thick, add reserved pasta water a tablespoon at a time to achieve the perfect consistency.
  6. Taste and adjust salt and pepper as desired. Serve hot directly from the pot or transfer to bowls for a cozy family meal.
